You realize that the bitcoin is no longer an independent currency when the value is determined by inflated demand backed by other currencies, right?

This isn't why bitcoins were created, and it's shown that this kind of system is too unreliable for everyday use.

Bitcoins seem like a neat concept but unlikely to amount to much in the long term. Once governments start taxing those transactions, and they will,(like they did with online poker, paypal, or any other way that people find ways to get around taxes) what is the point of using or investing in bitcoins to purchase items as opposed to dollars that are more liquid? That's really the only value that they have from what I understand, plz correct me if I'm wrong. There is no physical value or backing.
