The actual skinhead scene started as a mix between the English mod scene
and the rudeboy style brought to the UK by Jamaican immigrants in the
'60s. The first skinhead music was ska and reggae. But skins had a
reputation for being brawlers, and so, in the late 70s and early 80s,
the National Front (a racist, nationalist English political group)
began encouraging their followers to adopt skinhead styles. The media
picked up on these boneheads and that's where the image of a racist
skinhead came from.
JayMealIt's actually quite the same today as it was yesterday-- then English created it against the hippie movement (beatles era I'd imagine) because they felt they should be upright working class citizens, message is still the same but in America the blame game is used "blacks, hispanics, non-whites are lazy and brings drugs..blahlbah"
