I did research on female gamers and I know that a lot of girls like to use male accounts in such games as world of warcraft. I never quiet worked out why, I did point out that as a female they would get more attention and also get better tips (cash credit) from male players. Its just human behaviour. Its mans nature to be more giving to females on the sole basis that someday he may meet her....

Don't know the book personally but I like the way you think.

To help your studies i'd like to add on a personal note that anything that is done socially over the internet probably has to be skewed in accuracy by at-least 15%.

But that's just me. And oh yeh, I'm hispanic.

Pointless research.

You will never know what's going on behind the avatar of people on here.

Are they white pretending to be black because they're young and think its cool?

Are they white and using a black avatar because they think they'll be taken more seriously as a black player?

Are they black and using a white avatar to avoid getting a 'gangster' stereotype?

Leave sociology out of prisonblock.. you'll learn very little from the 'research', I'm sure.

not true if u kno what you are studyin.. here in PrisonBlock many legitimate Social Psych theories & concepts are present.. You guys have been subjects of naturalistic observation research many of times before I graduated in April.. and yes I am black & really do talk the way I type on here.. I look similiar to my avatar minus the obvious exaggeration like neck tattoos & red eyes.. I do have a natural mean mug facial expression, low cut, beard, and a small scar under my right eye thats been there since I was a baby so yea some folks do stay true to their avatar on here & the few girls that I know on here have proven this with pictures as well..

The obvious answer to your question("do people create black avatars based on a cultural stereotype") is yes.

We have no reason to believe that more than 50% of the player base is black, so statistacally 30% of the players are white, having a black avatar..

RPG wise i'd be interesting to ask these people(both black and white) why they choosed to do so. What is it that a black character can say/do, that a white inmate cant and vice versa?

P.S. does anyone know how the White/colour ratio is in US prisons today?
