Explain a mentors roll to everyone please!
wormdogg10Add to the bold statements blatantly lie and give false info to noobs and others in the SB to Harass Mentors and then talk shit about them in the SB when they hear from the noob that they didnt get anything. For some reason people think we are given items to dish out to noobs but we are keeping them for our selves. I dont know anyone in SD who uses chocolates And I will give them away if I mug or raid them off of someone. BUT WE ARENT GIVEN ANY ITEMS FOR NOOBS!
shawshankYou know, these mentor threads have started to become the most entertaining threads to read of late..all the bellyachin, complaining, moaning and crying(from all sides).....you would almost think being a mentor is a required or mandatory position...but guess what..it's not...ppl volunteer and get compensated...I'll agree w/ Hana that a lot of ppl help noobs whether ther mentors or not..I cannot post in sb or forum w/out getting a pm instantaniousely from a noob lookin for a handout..I think the mentor program is an asset to the game...but no one is required to be 1..or indispensable if not 1...I've seen many peeps request or want to become a mentor..if the role is too much or to agravating, let someone else try.
Just wanted to clear this up:
Mentors do not volunteer. I have to ensure this is known, so people don't come to us asking to be Mentors. When we need Mentors, we approach players that are active and enjoy helping others without compensation, and we ask if they'd like to be a Mentor.
Our current list of Mentors includes plenty of active players. To my knowledge, they all do a great job, and are online frequently enough to justify their positions.

I agree..they all do a great job..the symantics of volunteering/being asked I guess is true..and the "compensation" I meant was the $80 most pay per year for respected status opposed to the "benefit" of mentoring..but didn't mean to split hairs kt.
People can get help from people in the same situation. The social mechanics in place allow you to very easily interact with other players, and a player's profile lets you easily know which low level players are new to the game, and which ones have been there for a while (and probably have more experience because of it).
Frank_W...I am sick of older players criticizing mentors... it is lame and pathetic... and makes you look like a hater... a poor pathetic hater...
Now... anyone in the game ... that knows how to play the game can teach new players to play... and help them... but unfortunately we have an old school crew of players who think that cause they been around a while it is their right to harrass, bully, extort, and scam new players. Add to that the use of the sb etc to give incorrect information to players... and especially incorrect information about what a mentor can and cannot do... and then these same people wanna complain about their not being enough players in the game...
There needs to be some drama in the game to hook people in... but their is a line that I believe gets crossed... when a player has absolutely no form of redress for how they have been treated by a player 25 levels above them... then people need to stop criticizing mentors for how they care for new players and start looking at the culture of the community ... oh but wait... i forgot... this is the internet... and people can behave how they want... cause common decency don't apply once you hide behind a screen...

, And I thank you for that,
