I can't edit the previous post but I think that I have found it :

If you fight someone while wearing that gear and win = Lose 1 durability.

If you fight someone while wearing that gear and lose= No change in durability.

Win or lose shouldn't make a diff (except in cases where the gear is designed that way). I'll take a look.
