Dont know if its a bug, but I dont understand how this could happen. You have to use favs for Uncommon and above so that wouldnt have deleted any Chess Sets from the game like if it were Common. So Im just curious ?

The rarity isnt based on how many are IN game (numbers), but on the amount of players with that amenity in cell page I believe Mu once explained.

The rarity can go back/forth due to several reasons like:

1)Hoarders with several copies selling them to other players without that amenity.

2) Bootleg joe/adam/firesales... more ingame lowering their rarity.

...and im not sure about these last two (ill leave it to KT to verify) but:

3) but if theyre BIN'ed theyre technically not with you.. meaning since you dont own one (temporarily) its rarity became slightly higher.

4) Listing the amenity on the market, since its no longer in your possession i think... you get it

Rarity is based on how many there are in circulation. This system takes ALL amenities into account, then orders them by quantity, and rarity is derived from that.

It's possible that more Chess Sets were added, making them less rare; or other amenities were removed from the game, which would also make Chess Sets less rare.

And then the reverse happened. Other amenities were added to circulation, which made Chess Sets take up a smaller portion of that pool.

It's rare that you would see this, but it's probably because Chess Sets are on the very border between Rare/Uncommon.

[EDIT]: Dem, you are correct in that amenities on the market and in the Bootleg Bin are not included while calculating rarity. This wasn't by design, but I don't think it causes enough of a problem for us to modify the entire system for it.

So if i would to hoard up 99% of X amenity, the rarity still wouldnt change?

It goes by total number. It doesn't matter who owns them.

Regardless, stop hoarding shit. I'm going to implement a max amenity cap. And if you're over it, it will just delete random amenities until you're at the cap.

10 spare amenities sounds fair, yes?

Couldve sworn i remember reading a post saying the rarity was tweaked (a few months or weeks after it was implemented) and now affected by the amount of people that have that amenity too and all, my shitty searching skills dont help either lol.

A max amenity cap is fair enough (people including me with 10+ pirates just got fucked lol), but having a set limit for all amenities wouldnt work out very well... its TOO easy to grab 10-15 lump of coals that are very common (to relist for favors or whatever).

Amenity caps should be based on rarity if you ask me sir, the higher the rarity the less amount you should be allowed.

Very rare = 1-3 (unless its an amenity youre allowed more than 1-3 of in cell... )

Rare = 5~

etc....

with Very common being around 30~ - Hoarding very common amens cant affect the rarity, cause theyre all in the wardens office I believe.

We've been wanting amenity caps for a while. It would create much-needed balance. But it mostly just screws over the wealthy players who have a stockpile.

But one day...

[EDIT]: vintral just confirmed, rarity is based solely on the number in circulation. It has nothing to do with who has how many.

Thanks and there should be a cap onhoarding rare amenities it makes the game unbalanced. And it pisses me off when im looking for something thats rare and all of a sudden someone lists five or six of that one amen at one time. Its really unfair to noobs.

Rarity was something we had visible in the office for research/development purposes, and figured the players may want to see it after a while. Then it had to have some sort of use, so we added the protection functionality tied to rarity.

But, in the beginning, we honestly didn't intend for players to find much use in the rarity system.

i think that all amenity's should be able to be protected by putting 5,6,7,8 together like common amens are that way they would slowly disappear anyway
