Just started playing so can get a tad confused in general.

Tried to find this problem but couldn't in either here or the bug reports (not sure where this should be)

Anyways,

I got the first job (yeah I'm a ho)

The job listing said get your defense up to 45 to advance a lvl.

I trained up to 36, then I gathered some cash and bought the defense book (figured it cheaper than a cockblocker 2000)

Went to check back at the job listing but it still showed me as a lvl 1 hooker.

Decided

to train 1 more point in defense thinking it may not pick up on the

item as changing my job lvl, but no luck there either.

I refreshed and relogged and all that, but still no luck.

Figured it could be 45 defense without any items or is it a bug?

it's all on your BASE attributes - meaning NOT including armor, weapons, amenities etc. On the jobs page (and the gym page), the stats listed at the bottom are your BASE stats, so that's what you go by.
