The decision, announced on Saturday morning, stunned Cypriots and caused a run on cashpoints, most of which were depleted within hours. Electronic transfers were stopped.

The move to take a percentage of deposits, which could raise almost 6 billion euros, must be ratified by parliament, where no party has a majority. If it fails to do so, President Nicos Anastasiades has warned, Cyprus's two largest banks will collapse.

Dick..don't be a revisionist of history...just taking your 1 sector (buiding)..seems the housing building/buying apex was 2005-2006 which would make "your" good time during the bush administration (altho it was a bubble brought on by other factors which were encouraged by Democrats and ultimately burst)...now as Reagan told Mondale in 84 I won't hold your youth and inexperience against you..but all economic conditions run in cycles not withstanding what party controls the white house..whether it was Reagans boom stock market years or the 87 crash..in 91-93 I think I was making +30% per year and then the tech bubble burst..or obamas 09 low point to current stock market recovery...it's all cycles.....as far as bush,most if not all posters on this thread (hokie included,any many other obama detractors) have not given bush the praise/credit I have..so you can put that all on me
