You win and lose because his str and your def are so close it can go either way. Dont know what thread it was but staff mentioned if stats are with in 10 percent it can go either way.

basically you need to train either your speed or defense, i suggest you add on defense since its easier to win a fight if you train defense. you'd have to train more than 15M in speed to pass him, only a few million in defense and you'll be set in fights for a while, he'll mug your ass off till you hit 15M+ speed though
