They weren't fit for consumption and they had to be put down, they possibly could've chosen a more humane way though. This is the world we live in, had they not had foot and mouth they'd be put to slaughter. If you don't like that reality I suggest you go kosher or vegetarian. Sorry if I seem a bit cruel but I've seen enough PETA and slaughterhouse shock videos to just become desensitized to the whole ordeal.
