We've watched a few people new to pblock sit there confused once they log in (even though there's a quick start guide all in your face, and a welcome message telling you how to get started), so what else can we do to get these guys going?

It's in everyone's interests to get these players rolling quicker (less begging for money and dumb threads, plus potential new allies and/or targets actively playing). We could throw in a quick tutorial, but if they don't read the welcome message or the quick start guide staring them in the face for 7 days, what's to say they'd read that either?

A hold your hand tutorial? Don't let them progress to the next step of the tutorial until they've done the previous step. This ensures that all players can hold a mouse and read basic English.

3 months and only level 1? i agree though. dont let them do anything at all. including messaging until they have been on the game for a few days or got like 2k or something

make it once there 7 days old they can talk and stuff but in there mail like as soon as they create their file direct them to there mail and have a message saying a link to the quick start guide and just like a reminder in the events everyday to reread the wiki

Id like to expand on your idea a bit.

Dont make it a set number of days, make it for level 1. They shouldnt be able to start threads and issues while under n00b protection.

None of these really help the new user understand how to play the game though.

Well by limiting what they can do maybe theyll actually read first. There is no way to MAKE them read but you can give them incentives to do so
